Conclusion The XF100/105 is a compact workhorse that plays off its strength especially in the documentation and news area (less in a scenic environment).Here the camera concept feels quite well thought-through.The lack of a ND filter and the 1/3" chip are our main points of criticism, aside from slight difficulties in the handling, though these of course are partly due to the compact form.The Canon has XHA1s CCDs with excellent resolution in both brightness and color.The dynamic behavior can be changed to outstanding values with knee, noise suppression and -3dB gain, which combined with the sober colors ensures a very clean image impression.Only the lens with its 20x zoom shows occasional distortion and chromatic aberrations.Partly due to much noise, the XH A1 is only "good" in low-light situations.
