Total score ? (maximal 570) | 424 | 395 |
| Pros | + 50P Recording + Big wide angle + Very good low light behavior
| Good wide angle + Professional controls + genuine 720/50p mode and a variable framerate
|
| Cons | - Image characteristics can not be changed
| - low sharpness due to pixel shift - P2 cards are more expensive than tape - 4:3 display with low resolution
|
| Conclusion | The HXR-NX70 is a nice camera; with its external controls it makes Sony`s consumer technology interesting for pros also.In addition to the good light sensitivity the abberation correction is remarkable, since it is seldom found on professional cameras. The only real drawback is the fixed image characteristics, which can not be modified. The pricing is fair considering the XLR connectors and the dust and splash protection -- as long as you actually have use for these features...Otherwise a comparable image quality can be found in the consumer class for approximately one third of the price of the NX70. | Panasonic´s AG-HPX171E scores with its handling and the Leica lens shows very little chromatic aberrations. Thanks to finally cheaper recording cards the AG-HPX171E can be seen as an allround-model suited for both documentary and fiction shooting. But pixel counting searchers for ultimate sharpness will be happier with other models, as will those who do not wish to invest in P2 cards. The resolution of the display is too low. |
