Pros + Very good image quality impression
+ 20x zoom
+ handling well-conceived
HDMI out
+ 25p
+ professional handling
+ cheap workflow by using XDCAM EX on SDCH cards
+ flexible assignable
Cons -less Wide-angle than FX1/A1/HVX200
- wide angle with slight distortions
- poor low-light
- display and viewfinder have a very low resolution
Conclusion The Sony HVR-V1 makes the most of the three 1/4-inch CMOS-converter .The brightness resolution is good, the color resolution lacks somewhat. The progressive mode offers more vertical resolution, but shows occasional color artifacts.Low noise and little smear effects together with excellent automatics make for a very good subjective image impression. The 20x lens shows comparatively few errors like aberrations or distortion, but the wide-angle could be larger for this price range.Lowlight performance of the FX7 is good, the plus points being low noise and the optional hyper-gain.In addition to the professional focus and features of the camera the XDCAM EX format persuades. The trade-off consists of the no longer up-to-date low-light capabilities, the narrow wide angle and the lens distortion. Also the image stabilizer, as well as the display and viewfinder seem a little out-dated..On the plus side of course you have to add the XLR jacks and the ND filter. In the price range of the estimated 2700 Euro though, these are no unique features, unless one does needs XDCAM EX recording or is looking for CCD sensors.
