Pros + focus and exposure control via touchscreen works well
+ good low light performance
-Sharpness
-Good low light behavior
- External buttons for focus, shutter, aperture + custom key
Cons - no microphone and headphone jacks
- display resolution only average
- little manual control
- small wide-angle
- strong, non-adjustable colors
Conclusion Too bad Sony still does not offer any manual control on their medium-class camcorders.Because the camera actually delivers an overall good image for this price range. The wide angle lens with its almost 29mm (kb) surely makes it attractive to some buyers, since competing models offer nothing of the sort.On the other hand the camera has a spicy price tag, which makes it look somewhat less good compared to the new Panasonic series (HDC-XX60).Hence, in its price range it recommends itself only to those who need a generous wide angle without any manual control or connectivity. The GZ-HM1 is leading in the race for sharpness in its 1000 Euro range of 2010 camcorders. Also in low light conditions the camera makes a good impression. In spite of its price tag it is not possible to adjust the colors, which is unfortunate because they remain a matter of taste and are sometimes even on the verge of being critical. The external controls will be interesting for people who like to manually adjust things and be in control. In addition to the inertia of the parameters, the user must decide if a fast white balance or the focus aids should be assigned to the custom key.Because for the other it means diving into the menue via laser touch. Also, the small wide angle is not very inspiring.
