Pros + large wide angle
+ XLR audio
+ good low light performance
+ high resolution display / viewfinder
+ professional handling
+ cheap workflow by using XDCAM EX on SDCH cards
+ flexible assignable
Cons - sharpness only average
- no touch focus
- no shot transition
- wide angle with slight distortions
- poor low-light
- display and viewfinder have a very low resolution
Conclusion Consumer camcorders like Panasonics 300-series or the JVC GZ-HM400 are able to deliver sharper FullHD images. But on the other hand the AX2000 shines with its low light capabilities, handling, display, viewfinder, wide angle and also in the audio section. As a universal workhorse this semiprofessionell AVCHD-camcorder thus makes a thoroughly good impression. Also the pricing which lies well below the EX1 makes it interesting.A touch focus and shot transiton had been nice though. The former could (as an option) be of advantage also on a rather professional model like this, while the latter would seperate it more from consumer devices. In addition to the professional focus and features of the camera the XDCAM EX format persuades. The trade-off consists of the no longer up-to-date low-light capabilities, the narrow wide angle and the lens distortion. Also the image stabilizer, as well as the display and viewfinder seem a little out-dated..On the plus side of course you have to add the XLR jacks and the ND filter. In the price range of the estimated 2700 Euro though, these are no unique features, unless one does needs XDCAM EX recording or is looking for CCD sensors.
