Pros + Excellent resolution in brightness and color
+ Compact
+ Very good price / performance ratio
HDMI out
+ good Display
Cons - small wide angle
- slight problems with reds
- over-simplified operation
- bad color resolution
- SD-quality only average
Conclusion Thanks to the excellent resolution of its CMOS the Canon HV20 makes almost full use of the HDV-system in brightness as well as color.Noticeable is the high resolution in diagonals. With enough light the HV20 makes a very clean picture, only in low light there is visible image noise. The optics has very little distorsion, but offers only a small wide angle. For a AVCHD model the Sony HDR-SR1 offers only average brightness resolution, the color resolution is beneath SD-level.Occasionally significant (colored) moirees can be seen on fine details. The subjective image impression is good to satisfactory, which is partly due to the good dynamics behavior with little noise and few smear-effects.Color-wise the SR1 is pleasantly coherent. The wide angle is very limited for indoors, but on the other hand there are only few lens errors.in low-light situations the SR1 is satisfactory.
