Pros + focus and exposure control via touchscreen works well
+ good low light performance
+ Very good image quality impression
+ Wide optics
+ handling well-conceived
+ Very well equipped
+ Sharpness and colour at the upper AVCHD limit
+ Many manual controls
+ Good image stabilizer for moving camera
Pros
Cons - no microphone and headphone jacks
- display resolution only average
- little manual control
- No full HDV-resolution
- DV-quality only average
- weak wide angle
Cons
Conclusion Too bad Sony still does not offer any manual control on their medium-class camcorders.Because the camera actually delivers an overall good image for this price range. The wide angle lens with its almost 29mm (kb) surely makes it attractive to some buyers, since competing models offer nothing of the sort.On the other hand the camera has a spicy price tag, which makes it look somewhat less good compared to the new Panasonic series (HDC-XX60).Hence, in its price range it recommends itself only to those who need a generous wide angle without any manual control or connectivity. The Sony FX1 lacks CCDs with full HDV-resolution, which is visible at least in the horizontal resolution.Nevertheless, the subjective image impression is still very good due to the very good dynamic behavior with extremely little noise and the consistent color reproduction.Despite the comparatively large wide-angle, optical errors are within limits, only little distortion and chromatic aberrations can be detected. In low light situations the FX1 is just about good -- here too the low noise a plus point. The new image stabilizer is better and especially interesting for people who like cheap glide camsIn terms of low light the camera easily gets surpassed by the Sony XR520 and the wide angle is a sorry affair in this price range. But that is just about all we could find to complain about.Except maybe that you get almost the same technology without the internal memory and improved image stabilization in the notably cheaper HDC-SD300.Conclusion
